GridAU brings together information from Australian public datasets. Each source has its own purpose, coverage, update schedule and reuse terms.
What the registers provide.
Registration information
Public ABR information provides an anchor for ABN-based records. ASIC datasets can add company or business-name information where available and matched.
An ABN record is not the same as a complete ASIC company extract. Different registrations and statuses remain distinct.
Connected public records
Additional collections may draw on procurement, grants, trade marks, charities, payment-times reporting, corporate tax transparency and R&D transparency data.
The source inventory below identifies which datasets are included and what information each contributes.
How records are connected.
Identifiers such as the ABN and ACN help connect information to the relevant entity. Where a dataset does not provide a reliable identifier, a similar name alone is not enough to establish a definitive match.
A connected record should be read according to the relationship, status and date supplied by its source.
What public data does not necessarily include.
Coverage varies across entities and datasets. Public ABN data does not provide every company detail, full business street addresses or publicly disclosed ABR industry codes.
Missing information is not proof that an activity, relationship or registration does not exist.
Dates and reporting periods.
A publication date, a reporting period and GridAU’s refresh date describe different things. Review them together, particularly when a source reports periodically or publishes historical information.
Attribution and reuse.
Licensing terms vary by dataset. Public availability does not remove attribution requirements or restrictions on reuse.

Licence versions differ per source, so a single attribution string would be wrong. G-NAF is not CC BY: it is reproduced under the Open G-NAF End User Licence Agreement, which also bars compiling addresses for the sending of mail without per-address verification. Data is reproduced as published; no warranty is given by the issuing agencies. Each dataset entry also carries:
